Anita Singh is a Professor in the Department of English and Co-coordinator of the Centre for Women’s Studies and Development at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. Her areas of interest are Gender Studies and Performance Studies. She has completed a project on ‘Staging Gender: Performing Women in the Ramlila of Ramnagar’ in 2016. Her recent edited book is Gender, Space and Resistance: Women and Theatre in India (2013) She has also published interviews with Indian women theatre artiste in Asian Theatre Journal. She has contributed in four chapters in  Routledge Handbook of Asian Theatre, ed. Siyuan Liu, 2016. She received Fulbright Fellowship in the year 2013

Gerise Herndon is chair of the International Studies program and Professor of English at Nebraska Wesleyan University (USA), where she also teaches Gender Studies. Drawing on research about how aesthetic expression contributes to healing from violence, she co-authored Art from Trauma, Genocide and Healing Beyond Rwanda, and Emerging Perspectives on Maryse Condé, A Writer of Her Own. She has directed Nebraska Wesleyan’s Gender Studies program and its Gender Advocacy Place. Having served as a consultant for the National University of Rwanda’s Centre for Gender Studies, the birthplace of Rwanda’s inaugural gender studies program, she published articles on Rwandan women’s power and feminist pedagogy.

Given her community involvement in the U.S., she has been invited to give presentations on intimate partner violence and systematic racism endured by women involved in the criminal justice system, as well as on the human rights of immigrant and refugee populations. In addition to north America, she has presented research in India, Egypt, Ghana, Rwanda, Dominican Republic, Barbados, Grenada, St. Lucia, Guadeloupe, and France. She was awarded a Fulbright to Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi; subsequently, she was invited by the U.S.-India Educational Foundation to evaluate applications for Fulbright-Nehru awards. Her current research interests include transgender/hijra identities in India and transnational migration.
